Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art (BA)
In the undergraduate study programme Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art students become acquainted with the methods of research work and preventive conservation, as well as active, modern conservation-restoration in a wider field: portable paintings, poly-reinforced plastics, wall paintings and stone.
To facilitate understanding of the structures of works of art you will acquire drawing, painting and sculpting skills, both in terms of the knowledge of artistic language and technology. During the theoretical and studio courses, you will acquire the basic methods of documentation, conservation and restoration procedures as well as learning about the materials, tools and equipment required for this work. The knowledge of natural sciences, art theory and art history acquired during the theoretical courses will help you search for conservation/restoration solutions. Students develop the skills for rescuing damaged works of art during practical work in the studios of ALUO, museums, galleries and the Restoration Centre of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia. In the final study year and within the mandatory practical work at one of the above institutions you will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the technical, scientific, artistic and organisational aspects of conservation/restoration.
Through interdisciplinary studies of the Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art programme and intertwining of natural sciences, social sciences and fine arts, students carry out conservation and restoration interventions in close connection with the ZVKDS Restoration Centre (Institute for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Slovenia).
