The main goal of this year’s International summer school is to help students understanding and practicing the principles underlying the typeface design. In an intensive four days workshop, we will offer the students the possibility of creating a stencil set of letters, large enough to manipulate with words and sentences to create a set of graphic pieces. The students will develop an ability to shape a full alphabet in the future. The four day learning experience can be understood as “type design as a tool for designers“.

WHERE?
The International Summer School Ljubljana Type Days with Laura Meseguer will take place at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana, Erjavčeva cesta 23. Type walk will take place across the centre of Ljubljana.
WHO?
The application to the summer school is open to all who want to improve and deepen their typographic knowledge. We invite students and experts of graphic design, architects, artists etc. to participate in this workshop. A good knowledge of the English language is required.

Registration fee is 420 EUR (22% VAT incl.)
CREDIT POINTS
The complete attendance and the final artwork presented at the Summer school website is awarded with 3 ECTS. Participants of the programme will have to attend at least 80% of the classes in order to receive the certificate; otherwise they will not receive any transcript from the UL ALUO. A formal certificate will be issued upon completion of the programme.
ABOUT THE MENTORS
LECTURER and MENTOR
Laura Meseguer is a freelance designer, educator, typographer and type designer based in Barcelona, Spain. Her activity is developed in the field of commercial work and personal projects.
She specializes in any kind of project based on typography, from lettering for monograms and logotypes to custom typefaces and book design. She is a co-founder of the Type-Ø-Tones, her own type foundry, from which she publishes and promotes all her typefaces. She is the co-author of “How to Create Typefaces. From sketch to screen”, a book published by Tipo e. She is a member of the ATypI Board since 2017.
COMENTOR and TYPE WALK GUIDE
Domen Fras is a graphic designer and typographer. He graduated at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana (1998) and received his master’s degree from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London (2000). In two decades of intensive design practice, he has participated in numerous public and cultural projects linking architectural, graphic and typographic design. As an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana, he complements his pedagogical work with organising international summer schools and conducting educational workshops.
