{"id":11669,"date":"2022-03-02T09:13:36","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T08:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aluo.uni-lj.si\/sodelavke-sodelavci\/cerne-oven-petra\/"},"modified":"2022-03-25T12:14:45","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T11:14:45","slug":"cerne-oven-petra","status":"publish","type":"sodelavke-sodelavci","link":"https:\/\/www.aluo.uni-lj.si\/en\/sodelavke-sodelavci\/cerne-oven-petra\/","title":{"rendered":"\u010cerne Oven Petra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Petra \u010cerne Oven<\/strong> is a designer, teacher, theoretician and author with a special interest in typography, information design and visual communications design.<br \/>\n\u010cerne Oven received a Typographic Excellence Award from the Type Directors Club of New York, was the recipient of the Most Beautiful Slovene Book award (2011, 2017, 2018) and many other awards. She won the contest for designing the\u00a0visual identity\u00a0for the UNESCO event Ljubljana \u2013 World Book Capital 2010. She also won several awards for the best-designed Slovenian book (2011, 2017, 2018) and Slovene Designer\u2019s Association awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u010cerne Oven completed her PhD at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reading.ac.uk\/typography\/\">Department of Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading (UK)<\/a> in the area of history, typography and language. She became research fellow and worked with professor Paul Stiff on the project \u201cThe Optimism of Modernity: Recovering Modern Reasoning in Typography\u201d, for which, among other things, she curated an exhibition on the British artist and typographer Edward Wright and edited the companion book <a href=\"https:\/\/hyphenpress.co.uk\/products\/books\/978-0-7049-1322-6\"><em>Edward Wright: Readings, Writings<\/em><\/a> (Hyphen Press, 2007).<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, she developed the concept for the international lecture series <a href=\"http:\/\/videolectures.net\/aml2010_ljubljana\/\">\u201cInformation Design 2009\/2010\u201d<\/a>, which was organized in collaboration with the Slovene Museum of Architecture and Design and the <a href=\"http:\/\/pekinpah.com\/design\">Pekinpah Association<\/a>. In 2011, she collaborated on an extensive research project on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brumen.org\/arhiv-objav\/miljenko-licul\">Slovene designer Miljenko Licul<\/a>, which culminated in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Slovenia in Ljubljana, for which she edited the accompanying book on the designer.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, \u010cerne Oven has teamed up with her\u00a0colleague, Barbara Predan, to\u00a0edit the collection entitled 42 (published by the Pekinpah Association), which publishes books on the subject of design theory.\u00a0Up\u00a0until now, <a href=\"http:\/\/pekinpah.com\/store\">20 books have been published in the series<\/a>. The books are always part of\u00a0larger projects, seminars, workshops,\u00a0and exhibitions. In 2012, she and Barbara Predan developed the project <a href=\"http:\/\/pekinpah.com\/agenda\">\u201cDesigning an Agenda, or, How to Avoid Solving Problems That Aren\u2019t\u201d<\/a> (Pekinpah Association and the Regional Development Agency of the Ljubljana Urban Region), which looked at the fields of service and information design in both theoretical and practical terms. In 2013 they published a scholarly monograph under the same title. In 2014, \u010cerne Oven and\u00a0Predan\u00a0were invited to contribute a text to the <em>Information design: research and practice<\/em> (Routledge 2017). In the same year they finished a project <a href=\"http:\/\/pekinpah.com\/news\/death\"><em>Death in Design<\/em><\/a> (various workshops in 4 countries, book, exhibition) which examines the advantages and disadvantages of a world without death, and offers pointers on how to detect, depict, explain, kill, and survive death.<\/p>\n<p>\u010cerne Oven has also published professional and scholarly\u00a0articles in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eyemagazine.com\/\"><em>Eye magazine<\/em><\/a>, <em>Typography Papers<\/em>, <em>Baseline<\/em>, <em>2+3D<\/em>, <em>Emzin<\/em>, <em>Typomag<\/em>, <em>Hyphen<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Oris<\/em>, <em>Likovne besede<\/em> and other magazines and academic journals.<\/p>\n<p>\u010cerne Oven is a founding member and a member of the supervisory board of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brumen.org\/\">The Brumen Foundation<\/a>, head of the\u00a0section for information design of the <a href=\"http:\/\/pekinpah.com\/\">Pekinpah Association<\/a>, and co-founder of Institute of Design, a scienti\ufb01c research organization. She is the Slovenian representative and a board member at worldwide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atypi.org\/\">Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u010cerne Oven is a\u00a0member of\u00a0several boards of international conferences\u00a0(International Conference\u00a0on Typography &amp; Visual Communication, Cyprus, Greece; CIDI: Information Design\u00a0International Conference, Brazil; Information+ conference, Vancouver, Berlin; ATypI, Antwerpen, Tokio) and regular peer reviewer for scholarly journals (<em>Information Design Journal<\/em>, <em>Design Principles and Practices Research Network<\/em>, <em>AR Journal<\/em>).
