Tugo Šušnik was born in 1948 in Ljubljana where he graduated in 1974 at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1979 he completed the specialisation course under prof. Andrej Jemec and Jože Ciuha. In 1979 and 1980 he studied, with a Fulbright scholarship, at the Pratt Institute in New York. In 1996 he became an assistant professor at the Department for Design of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana. In the same year, he also held an extensive retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana. In 2004 he obtained the title of a full professor of drawing and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana. He held more than 50 solo exhibitions and participated at more than 160 group exhibitions. He won numerous awards, including the Župančič Award of the City of Ljubljana, the Prešeren Fund Award, and, in 2013, the Rihard Jakopič Award for his life’s work.
