Bojan Gorenec was born in 1956 in Ljubljana. In 1979 he graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana under prof. Marjan Pogačnik and prof. Ježe Brumen. Between 1980 and 1996 he worked as a freelance artist. In 1996 he became employed at ALU in Ljubljana as a professor of painting. Between 2001 and 2007 he was the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs, and between 2007 and 2013 he was the Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
In the area of fine arts, he first worked alternately in the fields of painting and printmaking, but since 1985 he has only been engaged in painting. So far, he has had 38 original solo exhibitions and has been involved in over 50 group exhibitions at home and abroad.
In addition to his artistic work, he translated a number of texts about art from English and French languages (Marcelin Pleynet: De Pictura; Kazimir Malevič: God is not Cast Down: Art, Church, Factory) for the ŠKUC Gallery and the M’ARS magazine. He is also the author of many texts published in the M’ARS magazine and in other publications and catalogues.
