Barbara Prinčič

Barbara Prinčič graduated at the Department for Design of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) in Ljubljana in 1991. After her study, she lived in Taiwan for a year, working in the area of counselling and promotion of industrial design at the Design Promotion Centre – CETRA (China External Trade Development Council). In 1993 she won a scholarship of the Dutch Government for a postgraduate study, lasting for a few months, at the European Design Centre (EDC) in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, on the topic of ecology in design. This study allowed her to obtain an overall view of the environmental issues, strategies and solutions relating to design. She realised that the responsibility of design is larger than the profession is aware of and also that there are outstanding opportunities for solutions in the future. In 2007 she completed her research with a Master’s thesis Ecology as a Way of Life. Until 1997 she worked as a freelancer in the area of graphic design and packaging design. In 1997 she became employed at the Department for Design of ALUO at the invitation of her former professors, but she also continued to work for different clients in the areas of industrial design and interior design. Today she sees and understands her pedagogical role at ALUO mainly as an opportunity to raise the awareness of sustainable design among the students. Since 2011 she has lectured on sustainable design. Her teaching approach is always a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical tasks; for this reason, at the undergraduate level, one semester is devoted to each of these two areas. She is the initiator of the proposal to introduce design as an autonomous discipline to the Slovenian primary-school curriculum. At the institutional level, she advocates the idea that designers, ALUO graduates, should be able to teach at primary schools, which is not possible according to the current legislation. Barbara Prinčič often gives lectures in Slovenia at the invitations of educational, research or business institutions (UL-NTF, Jožef Stefan Institute, the SPIRIT Agency). The achievements in the area of her practical work include the Special Commendation Award at the Biennial of Industrial Design (BIO 11) and the ICSID Honorary Award at BIO 15. In 2010 she was one of the finalists for the IDEA Award in the USA. In 2014 she received the Silver Medal at the A’Design Award and Competition in Italy.

PREDMETI

Industrijsko in unikatno oblikovanje
